Social Media 103: What is Instagram Doing Right at The Forum-E Series

In honour of being invited back to speak at the Forum E-Series, I wanted to share my favourite tips and tricks for crushing it on Instagram.
How To Convert On Instagram
You already have a dope Instagram for your business, but you aren’t getting the results you want. Sound familiar?
Rather than trying to come up with a conversion strategy that you THINK might work, I’ve put together a quick list of things the Pros do to get it done:
- Know Thy Peeps: They know their target market REALLY well.
- Prepped Tech: They’ve got all their tech set up.
- Follow Through: They’ve got a solid post-click strategy nailed down.
Let’s break it down…
Know Thy Peeps
Be honest, how well do you ACTUALLY know your target market? Do you know their biggest pain points are, and what frustrates them? What do they need that they’re not getting? If you can’t answer these questions, you, my friend, don’t know your target market.
Take the time to learn your ideal customer’s pain points. Knowing their pain points is the most crucial information to extract from your target market. Don’t skimp or rush this step! Take your time, and do the research. Instagram is a great place to make your case, showcase your expertise with a snappy photo, juicy content, and relevant hashtags. This really is the first step to making waves on social media.
Prepped Tech
Trying to engage with every single customer sounds nice, but it’s a recipe for burnout. There are so many ways you can use specialized tools of the trade to do the heavy lifting for you. I’m not saying you need to automate everything, but there are so many tech resources out there that will make your CUSTOMERS’ lives easier too. Convenience is huge when it comes to creating a good buying experience.
Take Instagram’s direct relationship with Shopify. Connecting your IG to your Shopify website means you’ve now got a one-click-to-purchase solution for your customers. Nobody has to dig out their credit cards, create a new account, or even leave Instagram. Mint.

Follow Through
Let’s say you’ve nailed your ideal client’s pain points, you have some great tech tools supporting you, and you finally have clicks. Now what?
Well, my friend, let’s talk about your post-click strategy. What is a “post-click strategy” you ask? Let me tell you allll about it!
It’s the routine or system you follow to close the sale after a customer has engaged. At this point, complex funnels aren’t necessary (unless you’re into that sort of thing), but you need to know exactly what you want the customer’s journey to look like. Time to climb into your customer’s head again!
Imagine I am your ideal client. I’ve landed on your site. Sweet. How should I feel? Where should I look? Is it easy for me to find what I’m looking for? Is it super simple for me to commit to what I started? How many clicks will it take for me to finally buy that special thing you were hawking on IG or Facebook?
